Our great nation is blessed with an diversity of surplus food crops throughout the year. With a variety of climates, growing regions, and crop types, there is an abundance of food available. Yet, there are still millions of innocent children, elderly, or other at risk people who are terrorized by poverty and hunger. Any one would agree that it is tragic to let precious surplus food goes to waste in one region, while people are going hungry across the country. Unfortunately, that situation is very real. When independent food banks are forced to turn down donations of fresh produce, perishables, and surplus food products, transportation costs are often to blame.
